We have designed this workshop to provide parents and carers with an overview of how your child or young person’s EHC Plan should work in practice. We start from the beginning and cover how the EHC Needs Assessment gathers the initial information to draft the content of the Plan. We then discuss the different sections of the plan and how they work together. EHC plans are reviewed yearly as part of the annual review process, which we will cover in the session. Additionally, we cover transition stages and how the plan changes and also what to do if you feel things aren’t going well.
We know that many families are new to having an EHC Plan this year and due to all the restrictions it may have been a trickier process understanding what was going on than normal. This workshop will help you understand where you are up to and what happens now.
Your child or young person may have had an EHC Plan for a while, but be approaching transition to a new stage, or you might just fancy a refresher to understand how things should work, he content will be applicable for you too!
Booking is required, a form can be found at the bottom of this page.
Please note – this workshop does not cover how to apply for an EHC Plan. The workshop to support this understanding would be our SEN Support workshop which explains the graduated approach to SEND and what should be in place prior to considering an EHC Plan.

About our workshops in general
Our sessions are run in small, informal groups, this allows for parents to ask questions and receive answers there and then. We encourage conversation and parents who have attended workshops tell us this makes the sessions even more beneficial.
The sessions are around 2 1/2 hours and we always have a short break and drinks and snacks are provided throughout the session.
The content of all our workshops is legally accurate and up to date with Bolton SEND processes as they are written by Cheryl Wyatt from IAS who has current legal SEND training. Through our work as a parent carer forum we work closely with Bolton Council and the NHS to ensure that the information about processes and services is also accurate.
This workshops is hosted by Cheryl Wyatt from IAS and Nan Cooper from BPC, both of whom are parents to teenagers with SEND.
Our workshops are held at The Bolton Hub which has car parking nearby, details of which can be found by clicking here
Whilst social distancing measures are in place we will do all we need to to ensure your safety whilst at our sessions. The room we use is large and well ventilated and we can easily ensure everyone is distanced. if you have attended a workshop with us before, we are using a larger room than the ones we have used in the past, so we can have plenty of space.
