Runs in October/November Only.
This workshop runs prior to the application deadline for reception class.
Designed by Cheryl Wyatt from the Information & Advisory Service (IAS) Bolton, our workshop has been written to guide parents and carers through everything you need to know about making the move to Primary School.
Our sessions are run in relatively small groups, this allows for parents to ask questions and receive answers there and then.
All attendees take home a handout which includes a very handy planner to help parents and carers through the decision making process.
This workshop is hosted by Cheryl Wyatt from IAS and Nan Cooper from BPC.
What does the workshop cover?
First of all we look at the decision making process. How do you make the decision as to which school to apply for. We cover school visits and talk about the kinds of things to look out for and to ask.
The deadline for application to Primary School is mid-January, we cover the application form and how to fill it out. We specifically cover what you should do here if a special school is your preferred route. We also discuss the differences for applications for those with EHC Plans and those who are on SEN Support (no plan.)
Parents and carers have to wait until April to find out which school has been allocated. We cover how this is communicated to you, and how it is different if a special school is your preferred route. We also touch on appealing the decision made.
Finally we open up the workshop to discuss the actual move and how you can work with your child to help them prepare for starting school!
