Our Transition to Primary School workshop is for parents and carers whose children have a EHC plan or not.
It’s ideal for parents and carers who have a child starting reception class in September 2022. We cover the application process for both mainstream and special schools. We talk about what support looks like for children with additional needs in school, and what schools provide without an EHC Plan (lots!) if you have a child who has Inclusion Fund at nursery, we explain how this works in school.
We talk a bit about jargon and getting to know the terminology, how it differs from nursery.
There is plenty of time for asking questions too!
We run these sessions in the Autumn only.

About our workshops in general
Our sessions are always run in small, informal groups, this allows for parents to ask questions and receive answers there and then. We encourage conversation and parents who have attended workshops tell us this makes the sessions even more beneficial.
For our online sessions we ensure they have all same information covered, and we cover questions via the chat function. We allow time at the end for a Q&A.
As the sessions are 2 1/2 hours we always have a short break and drinks and snacks are provided throughout the session.
The content of all our workshops are legally accurate and up to date with Bolton SEND processes as they are written by Cheryl Wyatt from IAS who has current legal SEND training. Through our work as a parent carer forum we work closely with Bolton Council and the NHS to ensure that the information about processes and services is also accurate.
This workshop is hosted by Cheryl Wyatt from IAS and Nan Cooper from BPC, both of whom are parents to teenagers with SEND.
Our workshops are held at The Bolton Hub which has car parking nearby, details of which can be found by clicking here
Please note we are no longer seating the rooms with social distancing space, however our workshops are held in well-ventilated rooms, we sanitise surfaces and refreshments are all single-serve sachets.
