Transition to Primary School Workshop

Moving to Reception Class

Workshop Content

Starting Primary School is often a time that parents and carers, who have children with special educational needs, can find daunting and it often appears to include complicated processes. Our workshops aim to make the whole process of transition much clearer for Bolton’s parents and carers.

These transition to Primary School workshops are suitable for parents who have children due to start primary school in September 2023 or 2024.

Everything we cover in the workshops is fully up to date with local processes in Bolton, and also follows SEND law,

Workshops are hosted by Nan Cooper from Bolton Parent Carers and Cheryl Wyatt from Bolton Information Advisory Service. Our workshops are run in small, informal groups, this allowstime to ask questions. We encourage conversation and parents who have attended workshops tell us this makes the sessions even more beneficial.

We only run these transition workshops at this time of year, they will next be available in Autumn 2023!

We also have the option for parents to join the workshop via Zoom if you are unable to make the sessions in person.

Our workshops are held at The Bolton Hub which has car parking nearby, details of which can be found by clicking here

New for Autumn 2022 – Join our Workshops via Zoom

We are providing this as an alternative way of being able to join our workshops, if you are unable to join us in-person.

You will be able to hear the presenters and also questions asked by the parents and carers in the room. Your screen will show the presentation that we are sharing in the room.

Our workshops include one activity that parents usually do in pairs, if you are joining online, you wouldn’t be able to join in with the activity, but we do discuss it and share the answers with the group.

We won’t be recording these sessions, it’s a way we offer an alternative way of joining the sessions for parents and carers who may struggle with childcare, or free time.
