Bolton Parent Carers and Bolton Information Advisory Service have together formed a CIC called The Compass Partnership Bolton. You can read about this here.

As well as providing both organisation with a more secure structure for the future, by formally joining forces we wanted to be able to develop additional opportunities for us to be able to provide Bolton’s parents and carers with more support.

And we are pleased to announce that we have already secured funding to develop a range of new workshops and training sessions.

The funding comes a part of a wider initiative across Greater Manchester to provide support for families as early as possible in their SEND journey, and this is something we are passionate about.

We are developing a range of workshops and training sessions to support understanding of neurodevelopmental conditions. This includes autism, ADHD, dyspraxia, dyslexia and more. The sessions won’t require any referrals and will be open to any parents and carers regardless of where they are on their diagnostic journey. This is something that we are really pleased about – this is support for parents and carers prior to diagnosis. That doesn’t mean to say we are excluding those with diagnosis though! Everyone will be welcome.

We have a survey that is currently open for parents and carers to share what they feel will be the most helpful, if you haven’t already seen this and would like to complete it click this link.

In addition to the new workshops and training we are going to build a resource hub. Our inspiration for this has come from the fact that as parents to young adults with SEND, over the years we have spent a small fortune on buying resources that we though might be helpful – only to discover that our kids didn’t like them! There was a weighted blanket that was described as “awful” by my son 30 seconds after trying it out – never to be used again! So we thought what we like to do is do the groundwork for you and build a resource hub of things that you can come and look at feel and think about whether it would be helpful for your family. This will include things like books, toolkits, toys and equipment. We currently have a lovely young lady with autism curating our fidget tool resources!

So we have another very quick survey – this one is to ask if there’s anything in particular that you’d like to see in our resource hub. Click for survey

We are really looking forward to developing this offer, if you want to be kept up-to-date with when we have more news you can register with us here Click here to register
