Every September we run workshops for parents and carers who are keen to understand more about the move to Secondary School when your child has special educational needs.

We are back for our 7th year of running these workshops!

Whether your child has an EHC Plan or not, or whether you are thinking about specialist settings, or are already in a primary specialist setting, the content of these sessions will have information to support your transition journey.

As the process is a little different when a child has an EHC Plan, we offer different workshops for those with EHC Plans, and those without. In both sessions our aim is to take away the worry about not feeling confident with the process, as it can feel very daunting; we can’t take away all the worry that moving to secondary school brings, but we can try and make it a little smoother.

We hold the sessions in September as this is the time that the applications portal is open for Year 6’s, and when annual reviews should be scheduled for those with EHC Plans. We encourage Year 5 parents to join these workshops too, as you can never be too prepared!

Our workshops are delivered by Nan Cooper from Bolton Parent Carers and Cheryl Wyatt from Bolton IAS. We ensure that the content of the sessions is legally accurate and also make sure you know everything there is to know about the Bolton process.
